SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS

The Norwalk Academy of Multilingual Students, a 501c3 non-profit, is a program which supports 80 underprivileged Norwalk High School students who were victims of drug and gang violence in Central America, now living in Norwalk, having been legally admitted into the US. The purpose of the Academy is to assist students who speak little or no English into mainstream ESL classes. Supervised by teachers, a social worker, and a cadre of volunteers, these highly motivated teenage women and men are not only hampered by language barriers but work after school and weekends to help their parents or guardians put food on the table. Despite these circumstances, close to 90% of them graduate into ESL classes.

           OUR PURPOSE

The Norwalk Academy of Multilingual Students-NAMS-provides tutoring assistance once a week in collaboration with the students' dedicated teachers. In addition, NAMS raises funds for school supplies & backpacks, and to enable the students to take educational field trips, two this year, to New york City and Washington DC. We also have a holiday party for the students where we provide food and fun, along with gift cards to grocery stores and pharmacies.

            HOW YOU CAN HELP

You can donate! Any amount will help. It's about $18.00 per student for supplies, $60.00 for a sturdy, long lasting backpack, and our field trips cost $35.00 to $50.00 per student. Any amount will help, and your donation is tax deductible!
